Issue

WT Tomcat Service fails with “could not create a FileOutputStream”

Cause

Incorrect Privileges or Policy settings.

Resolution

Setting privileges

1. Go to the Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Local Security Policy
2. Expand the tree for Local Policies.
3. Click the User Rights Assignment folder.
4. The user that the Webtrends service is using needs to be a part of the following policies:

  • Log on locally
  • Log on as a service
  • Act as part of the operating system

The user must be a member of the Administrators group for the services to properly interact with the operating system.

Note: When using Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional Edition there are two options when adding rights to the user, Local Policy Setting and Effective Policy Setting. Both options must be checked for the service to run properly.

Configure services

1. Go to the Control Panel\Administrative Tools.

2. Go into Services.

3. Right click the “Webtrends Scheduler” Service in the right panel, and

select Properties.

4. Click the Log On tab.

5. Type in the user specified above
