Cause
When viewing one Standard/Advanced profile and comparing metrics in the Countries report to a similarly configured Basic/Parent-Child profile there is a discrepancy between the report numbers. The Basic profile may also show a large quantity of “unresolved” visits.
Resolution
Standard/Advanced profiles resolve the client IP address to a database that is regularly updated when populating the geographic based reports including the Countries report. Basic/Parent-Child profiles do not use this GeoTrends database and instead perform DNS lookups on the IP address which can result in many unresolved addresses and a potentially large discrepancy in the values of IP addresses that were successfully resolved.
