How do I track what changes were made by which user?

Resolution

To track changes made to a profile, navigate to the following location on the Webtrends server:

\Webtrends\storage\config\wtm_wtx\datfiles\profiles

Every time a profile (.wlp) is modified a .bak file is created containing the current settings for the profile and a new .wlp file is created with these changes.

For example, if the profile file name is as follows:

hbBkRXXLOt5.wlp

Editing the profile will create a new hbBkRXXLOt5.wlp file and the old file will be renamed to something like:

hbBkRXXLOt5_admin_20051202102015.bak

The backup naming convention includes the name of the user who made the modification. In the above example, user “admin” made the most recent change and following the user name is a timestamp of when this occurred. Comparison of the current .wlp file and the succession of changes in the .bak files will help identify the who made changes and when they took place.

This process is not limited to changes made to a profile; other configuration settings within the \storage folder use the same convention.

More Information

Later versions of Webtrends include a Change History feature, providing the same information within the Webtrends user interface, found under “Application Settings > User Management > Change History.”
