When installing Webtrends Analytics 8.0x or 8.1x, both of which use MySQL as the system database, the installation fails and displays the following error message:

Setup did not detect a Webtrends system database installation on machine <server name>. Setup will now exit.

This error results from using a password the installation’s MySQL user account which contains non-alphanumeric characters. Use of these characters prevent the wtmaster and wt_sched system databases from being created and the installation will therefore fail.

To resolve this issue, remove all traces of the attempted installation and run the installer again. When prompted for the user name and password, use only alphanumeric characters.
