The expat.dll file is among those used during the Webtrends installation process. If the client machine has a programming language such as Perl or Python installed, which also uses expat.dll, a conflict may occur with the resulting in the following error message:

MsiExec.exe – Entry Point Not Found: The procedure entry point XML_SetStartNamespaceDeclHandler could not be located in the dynamic link library expat.dll.

To resolve this issue, temporarily rename the existing expat.dll files during the installation of Webtrends.

1. Complete a search in your Windows directory for the file, expat.dll. The file is usually located in the \Windows or \Windows\System32 directory.

2. Rename all files found to include a .BAK extension, then restart the computer.

3. After restarting, install the Webtrends product. This should allow the installation to proceed and complete without issue.

4. After successfully installing the Webtrends software, rename the files back to the original file names.
