What impact will changing the NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate registry key have on Webtrends’ performance?

Products

Webtrends Analytics 9.x
Webtrends Analytics 8.x

Resolution

In the Windows system registry, the NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate key specifies whether or not to update the last-accessed timestamp of a file whenever it is opened. If this key is assigned a value of 0 (the default), timestamps will be updated when files are accessed. If assigned a value of 1, timestamps will not be updated. As this relates to Webtrends’ functionality, it is acceptable to use either option, though for high volume systems it may be optimal to disable updating the timestamps.

The key is found in the following location:
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\FileSystem\NtfsDisableLastAccessUpdate
