How do I restore a configuration repository backup or a file within the backup?

Products

Webtrends Analytics 9.x
Webtrends Analytics 8.x

Issue

You need to restore the \Webtrends\storage\config\wtm_wtx directory (or a file within this location) to a previous version to either correct an issue or go back to a previous configuration.

Resolution

Webtrends, by default, creates backups of the above directory, which are found in the following location:

\Webtrends\storage\backup\configuration

Depending on the configuration in the user interface for backups, there may be from 1-15 (or more) backups available in the backup history.

Each backup will have a name similar to the following:

config_20110505.zip

The backup is an copy of the \storage\config\wtm_wtx directory and the date (20110505) is the primary point used to restore the backup, as it indicates the date and time when the backup was made.

Steps to restore a complete configuration backup:

  1. Stop all Webtrends services.
  2. Navigate to the following location: \Webtrends\storage\config\
  3. Rename the wtm_wtx folder to wtm_wtx.old.
  4. Copy a backup of your choosing from the following location: \Webtrends\storage\backup\configuration
    To:
    \Webtrends\storage\config\
  5. Create a new folder named “wtm_wtx” and extract the contents of the backup file into this folder.
  6. Verify the backup has completed by making sure the wtm_wtx folder to which the contents were extracted has the same file structure as the one it is replacing.
  7. Restart the Webtrends services.

If you need to restore a particular file from a backup, the steps are similar to the above:

  1. Stop all services.
  2. Navigate to the following location: \Webtrends\storage\config\wtm_wtx\
  3. Locate the file to be replaced and rename it to .old. or .bak.
  4. Locate the file (that will replace the one renamed in 3. above) within the .zip file of the backup and extract it to where the original was located: \Webtrends\storage\config\wtm_wtx\

For example, if you need to restore a profile.wlp file from a previous version, the steps would be as follows.

    1. Stop all services
    2. Navigate to the following location: \Webtrends\storage\config\wtm_wtx\datfiles\profiles
    3. Locate the .wlp file used by the profile the extension from .wlp to .old.
    4. Extract the profile’s .wlp file from the backup file and extract it to: \Webtrends\storage\config\wtm_wtx\datfiles\profiles

Note: When completely restoring the \wtm_wtx directory, any changes made after the date of the restore will no longer be present. For example, if you created a new profile and then completely restore, that profile’s files will no longer be present.
