Reporting Impact of Internet Explorer browsers running in compatibility mode

Products

Webtrends Analytics 9.x
Webtrends Analytics 8.x

Issue

When visitors are using Internet Explorer in compatibility mode, you see an increase in Internet Explorer 7 and 8 in your Webtrends reports based on browser version.

Cause

When Internet Explorer is in compatibility mode, it will change the version of the browser that is reported. For example, when Internet Explorer 10 is in compatibility mode, the User Agent is changed from the default string, which is similar to this:
Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 10.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/6.0)

to something like this:
User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 7.0; Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; Trident/6.0)

The version of Internet Explorer changed from MSIE10 to MSIE 7. This will cause the browser version for this visitor to show up as Internet Explorer 7 in your Webtrends reports rather than Internet Explorer 10.

Resolution

Currently, there is not a work around for this.
