During an installation of Webtrends, the following message displays:

“Setup cannot locate the SQL Server OSQL utility on this computer and cannot continue. Please install the SQL Server Client Tools. Setup will now exit.”

To resolve this issue, follow the steps outlined below.

1. Run the Webtrends installer (wt-windows.exe) and extract the contents to a directory of your choice. After extraction, cancel the Webtrends installation. The intention is to use the executables in the extracted files folder and it requires the installer to be run only as far as the needed files can be extracted.

2. Navigate to the extracted files folder, then in the MSI folder, run either SQLEXPR32.exe (for 32-bit systems) or SQLEXPR64.exe (for 64-bit systems).

3. Continue through the installation until you reach the “Feature Selection” page.

4. Choose to install the Client Components and deselect all other options.

5. Continue through the installation, restart, then run the Webtrends installer to completion.
