Cause
Cscript.exe is a console-based script host that is native to Windows and part of the Windows Script Host module.
Resolution
References to “cscript.exe” may appear in error messages related to Webtrends, may account for considerable resource utilization in Windows Task Manager, and may appear in events in Windows Event Viewer. Cscript.exe is located in the C:Windowssystem32 folder (for 32-bit processes) and in C:WINDOWSSysWOW64 (for 64-bit processes).
When an analysis begins, Webtrends runs the batch file “analysis.bat” found in the Webtrendsmodulesanalysis folder, after which the application makes use of cscript.exe to process its scripts and execute the tasks needed to complete successfully. If cscript.exe is prevented from being run, is corrupted, or is missing, analysis will fail.
If an error occurs that references cscript.exe, confirm the file exists in the location specified. If missing, it can be replaced either from a backup of the server in question, or from a machine running the same operating system.
Note: Issues specific to cscript.exe are outside the scope of Webtrends Technical Support and should be referred to Microsoft Technical Support instead.
If the file is present and believed to be working, the cause of failure may be due to third-party interference.
