Webtrends Analytics 9.x
Cause
The bulletpoints below outline our current collection and analysis stances for IPv6 traffic in our OnPremesis solution.
Note: The details below are based on internal testing only. Other details in our customers environments may result in the need to change these statements over time
Resolution
Data Collection
- The Webtrends Smartsource Data Collector 9.2b can be installed on an IPv6 enabled Windows 2008 R2 server and it will log IPv6 data with no configuration changes or updates.
- Both the Webtrends v9 and v10 JavaScript tags successfully send traffic over IPv4 or IPv6 connections.
- When deploying a Webtrends JavaScript tag in a dual-stack IPv4/IPv6 environment, no configuration changes are necessary.
- When deploying Webtrends SDC in a dual-stack IPv4/IPv6 environment, the resulting SDC log file will contain both IPv4 and IPv6 information in the same log file.
- When deploying a Webtrends JavaScript tag in an IPv6-only environment, contact Webtrends Technical Support to assist in configuring your tag since it defaults to IPv4 for some connections.
- Webtrends SDC installations on Linux in an IPv6 environment are not supported at this time.
Data Processing - Webtrends Analytics can process log files with IPv6 traffic in them with no issues to the Webtrends engine or services.
- Geotrends data only includes IPv4 addresses. Any IPv6 address in a processed log file result in geographic look-ups of “unknown” in any report using Geotrends data (e.g. Geography Drilldown, Countries, Domains). IPv4 lookups are unaffected.
