How do I generate a dcsid from the command line?

Products

Cause

Webtrends SmartSource Data Collector (SDC) uses a globally unique identifier known as a “dcsid” for data sources. A dcsid is created at the time an SDC data source is created in the user interface, but dcsids can also be created from the command line using the steps below:

Resolution

1. Open a command line window on the SDC server and navigate into the following folder:

Webtrends\SmartSource Data Collector\bin

2. The following command will generate a single dcsid and either create or append it to a file entitled “lfmidgen.log,” located in the same location:

lfmidgen

To generate multiple dcsids, add the count= option to the command. The following example will generate ten dcsids at once:

lfmidgen count=10

To specify the file name in which to save the dcsids (other than the default), append the file= option to the command. In the example below, the file dcsidlist.txt will be created with a single dcsid:

lfmidgen file=dcsidlist.txt

After dcids are created, the latest version of the Webtrends JavaScript tag can be built around the dcsid(s) using Tag Builder, available at the following URL:
