How do I report on authenticated usernames from a Windows Media Server log file?

Products

Webtrends Analytics 9.x
Webtrends Analytics 8.x
Webtrends Enterprise 7.x
Webtrends Professional 7.x
Webtrends Small Business 7.x

Cause

Attempts to view the Authenticated Users report based on log files generated from Windows Media Server (WMS) fail to display meaningful data.

Resolution

If the server is configured to log authenticated usernames then the “cs-user-name” is being used. In W3C-formatted log files, this field is called “cs-username” (note the additional hyphen in the WMS field), and as a result, will not be recognized by the system as being the intended field.

Perform the following steps to modify Webtrends’ configuration to accommodate the variation. Ensure no analyses are running when this change is made.

1. On the Webtrends server, navigate to the following location:

\Webtrends\storage\config\wtm_wtx

2. Edit the wtm_wtx.ini file.

3. Locate the [w3cmap] section.

4. Add the following line:

cs-username = cs-user-name

5. Save the change.

6. Restart the “Webtrends – Scheduler Agent” service.

This change will apply to all future analysis, and applies to all profiles. To display previously analyzed report data with this change, reanalyze all affected profiles.
