The eBusiness Edition has been significantly enhanced by the addition of both Marketing and Commerce related pre-defined reports. Custom Reports available in the Enterprise edition have also been enhanced. Notable here are the new Search Engine Marketing (SEM) reports.
Document Utility now supported on Macintosh (added in 6.1/8.1)
The new Java-based Document Utility is now supported on Macintosh. Mac OS X 10.2 with Netscape 7.0 or above is supported at this time.
Enhanced Client-side Scheduled Reports Functionality (added in 6.1/8.1)
You now may schedule reports to be exported and e-mailed automatically on a periodic basis using your own scheduling application, such as the Windows Task Scheduler.
Third-party Audit Capabilities (added in 6.1/8.1)
The Audit feature enables customers to easily create an auditable file for use by third-party Audit Bureaus such as ABCe, ABCi, etc.
New Acquire, Convert, Retain Template (added in Webtrends Reporting Center Enterprise 6.1)
The new Acquire, Convert, and Retain template offers the most relevant reports to understanding how well you are acquire new visitors, convert them to customers and retain them. With this new organization, marketers can be sure they are looking at the right reports to make decisions.

The new web based manual activation process makes licensing the product quick and easy for machines that do not have access to the Internet.
Support for IIS6 and Windows Media Server 2003 (added in 6.1/8.1)
Our analysis engines now support log files generated by IIS6 and Windows Media Server 2003.
Support for Red Hat Linux 8 (added in 6.0b/8.0b)
Webtrends now fully supports Red Hat Linux 8. Due to some library incompatibilities, additional steps are required to install Webtrends on Red Hat Linux 8.
More Accurate Session Tracking (added in 6.0a/8.0a).
In cases where a visitor cannot be tracked by a cookie (or some other alternative method), Webtrends now uses the IP address concatenated with the User Agent to determine the identify of the visitor. Adding the User Agent to the IP will result in higher, but more accurate, unique visitor counts. If you wish to disable this feature, edit the default.ini in the .\wtm_wtx\datfiles\sessiontracking directory. Under the section of the session tracking profile you are using add the following key: useipagent = false

Out of Date Components

Viewing Reports on Microsoft Windows 2003
Starting with Windows 2003, Microsoft no longer provides a Java Virtual Machine (JVM) in its base installation. Webtrends requires a JVM to render graphs in the reports. To download the latest JVM from Sun go to: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/download.html
Using Product Licensing with Proxy Servers
If you are using a Proxy server, you may need to specify the proxy server address and port to activate the product. To do this, add the proxy information to plservice.ini in the Webtrends installation directory.
Configuring Program Services and User Rights on Windows
If you plan to access log files through mapped (or network) drives, you must first configure product services to log on under an account with access rights to those drives. By default, product services are logged on under the system account. To access mapped drives, you should typically configure the services to log on under a user account. This involves two steps: selecting an account to use for each service, and giving that account the appropriate rights.
Microsoft Windows NT Configure services:
1. Open the Windows Control Panel and click Services.
2. Select the Webtrends Reporting Center service from the list.
3. Click Startup. The Service dialog opens.
4. Select This Account. Specify the account to use, and enter the password for the account.
Give the account necessary rights:
1. Open the User Manager by selecting Programs\Administrative Tools\User Manager from the Windows Start menu.
2. Select the account that you specified for your services, and select User Rights from the Policies menu.
3. Select the Show Advanced User Rights check box.
4. Select Act as Part of the Operating System from the right drop-down list.
5. If the account you specified above is not listed, click Add. Add the account, and click OK.
6. Repeat step four for the Log On as a Service right. Click OK to close the user rights policy dialog.
7. In the bottom pane of the User Manager, double-click Administrators. If your account is not listed, add it. Click OK to close the Group Properties window.
Microsoft Windows 2000/XP Configure services:
1. Go to the Windows Control Panel and double-click Administrative Tools.
2. In the Administrative Tools window, double-click Component Services.
3. Select Services (Local) in the left pane.
4. Right click Webtrends Reporting Center in the right panel, and select Properties.
5. Click the Log On tab.
6. Select This account and click Browse to select an account from the list.
7. Enter the password for the account, confirm it, and click OK to exit the dialog.
Give the account necessary rights:
1. Go to the Windows Control Panel and double-click Administrative Tools.
2. Double-click Local Security Policy.
3. Under Security Settings in the left pane, expand Local Policies.
4. Double-click User Rights Assignment.
5. Double-click Act as Part of the Operating System, and make sure the account you specified earlier is listed.
6. Click Add to add the user account. Repeat this step for Log on as a Service and Log on Locally.
Known Issues:
Express Analysis and Daylight Savings Time
Parent-Child Express Analysis does not account for Daylight Savings Time. To work around this, manually set the GMT offset in the profile during Daylight Savings Time. For example, if you are in Pacific Standard Time your GMT offset is automatically set to -8. During Daylight Savings Time, override the GMT offset to -7 GMT in Time Zone section of the General tab in the profile.
Authentication prompt when using the Document Utility
If you experience a network prompt when exporting a report, you will need to login using the same user name and password used to access the AdminConsole. This does not occur when using Internet Explorer, with the "Remember my password" option checked when logging in.
IIS services on Windows 2000
The IIS services installed by default with Windows 2000, specifically the Indexing service and FTP service, may have a detrimental effect on the Webtrends analysis if one of these services accesses a folder while Webtrends is trying to establish a lock on it. It is recommended that these services be disabled on the machine Webtrends is installed on. If that is not possible, they should be configured so they are not accessing any folders in the Webtrends installation directory structure. For example, do not point your FTP service to the root directory of the drive where Webtrends is installed.
Shared memory usage on Solaris
Webtrends Reporting Center has the potential to use a large number of IPC shared memory segments. Consequently, the default shared memory limits is generally insufficient and must be increased. Edit /etc/system to include the following settings: set shmsys:shminfo_shmmni=500 set shmsys:shminfo_shmseg=500 If these parameters are already set, adjust them if necessary so that their values are at least 500. Reboot the system for the changes to take effect.
Changing graphs types on Mac
When viewing reports in Netscape 7.0 on Mac, you cannot dynamically change the graph types. For example, you cannot change a pie chart to a bar graph while viewing a report. To change the default graph types for the report, click the Templates link within the AdminConsole and modify the Report Template used by the profile you are interested in.
System Requirements
The following are the minimum system requirements for the product:
Hardware
Intel x86 1GHz processor or better 1GB memory 1GB disk space (SCSI disks recommended) Sun 400 MHz UltraSparc-II processor or better (UltraSparc-III recommended) 1 GB memory 1 GB disk space Multiple CPUs are recommended for large numbers of profiles and/or users. More disk space and memory is required to analyze large log files. Also, it is best to install the product on a separate, dedicated system which has access to all of the logs.
Operating Systems
Any Windows NT 4.0 (SP3 and above), 2000, XP, 2003 system. Any Solaris 7, 8, 9 system. Any Red Hat Linux 7.0, 7.1, 7.2, 7.3, 8.0 system. Note: While Webtrends does not run on Windows 95, 98, or ME, you can operate the product through a browser loaded on these systems.

Screen Resolution Using either the Administration Console or viewing reports requires a minimum screen resolution of 1024x768.
Note: Pop-ups must be enabled for the user interface to function correctly.

Chart FX 98 Chart FX 98 software may be used only as an integrated component of the Software. You may not distribute Chart FX 98 or use it for development purposes.

Licensing Information
Webtrends Reporting Center, Webtrends Log Analyzer, and Webtrends Log Analyzer Advanced utilizes an industry standard product licensing method performed through the use of an activation key, requiring a direct Internet connection, and utilizes standard HTTP requests to a web server. Activation keys are entered into a product when the product is installed or when it is first run, allowing the product to be activated and determine which features are active.
A manual process of activation can also be followed if no direct connection is available to the computer Webtrends is being installed on. The software will lead you through the manual process if it does not find a connection. During this activation process, information such as the Webtrends Activation Key, IP address, and Network Interface Card address are passed to the Webtrends Licensing Database. This information, in addition to verifying licensing, is used to assist Technical Support in the event that an issue would rise with the software and/or installation. No personal information is collected or passed to Webtrends.
Webtrends Product/licensing Updates is accessed by clicking on Administration; Product Updates/Licensing. This will open the Webtrends Reporting Center Licensing dialog box, where Automatic Updates can be controlled at the Product/Licensing Updates tab. The Enable Automatic Updates is checked by default, and is highly recommended to stay checked. The frequency of update can be adjusted from the default of Daily to Weekly or Monthly. Opting out can be done by un-checking the Enable Automatic Updates box, but by doing so, license information will not be updated, nor will the software check for updates. A manual update can be performed to update licensing information and check for product updates. This process is accessed in the same dialog box as described above. |
