Symptoms
The bounce rate report displays a bounce rate of over 100%.
Cause
This occurs when the number of Entry Page Visits (visits in which the first page viewed in the visit was the entry page or pages defined in the dimension) are less than the number of Single Page View Visits (visits in which only a single page view occurred). As all visits must have an entry page, the number of Entry Page Visits will normally be equal to or greater than the number of Single Page View Visits. It is, however, under certain circumstances, possible for the number of Single Page View Visits to exceed the number of Entry Page Visits. This will occur when a visit begins just before the end and beginning of a new reporting period, for example, at 11:58 PM, the daily boundary. The application counts Entry Page Visits at the beginning of the visitor session, which in this case will fall within the first day. Single Page View Vists, on the other hand, are counted at the end of the visitor session, in this case, occurring on the second day. When viewing the daily report for the second day, the Entry Page Visit from the preceding day does not factor into the bounce rate calculation, and if the bounce rate is at 100%, the number of Single Page View Visits in excess of Entry Page Visits will account for additional percentage points above 100%.
