Introduction
Webtrends now has the ability to log and process longer hits than ever before. The maximum length for any single hit has been increased to 15,500 characters. This will help to extend the tracking and processing capabilities of Webtrends to better meet the needs of large volume e-commerce clients and clients tracking a large volume of discrete objects in a single click action.  
 
You do not need to do anything to make this work.  It will be automatically enabled.
 
We are also excited to announce we are changing our cookie behavior to remove IP addresses from cookies.  This is to align with the global trend of IP-less tracking.  (See below for more information).
 
The Plan
After the new data collectors are deployed, all new visitors will receive the new cookie format.  Returning visitors will continue to use their existing cookies, but the cookies will be changed to have an expiration of January 1, 2014.  As a result, after January 1, all third party cookies will be in the new IP-less format.  
 
If you do nothing, the only cookie affected is ACOOKIE, which is managed completely by the data collector.  The cookie WT_FPC, which is managed by the JavaScript tag, cannot be accessed by the data collector and therefore cannot be changed.  We have developed an optional JavaScript plug-in that can be implemented to make both cookies align with each other should you require it.  This plugin currently requires you to have the latest JavaScript tag (V10.4).
 
If you do not require all cookies (First and Third party) to be IP-less, you don't need to worry about the WT_FPC cookie.  As people eventually delete their cookies it will be rewritten with the new cookie format naturally.  Current studies estimate that around 40% of users clear their cookies every month, and around 15% reject third party cookies all together. Our projection is that on average, less than 5% of your site visitors will be using a Webtrends cookie containing an IP address by January 1, 2014.  Using the new tag / plug-in combination can ensure 100% adoption of IP-less cookies by forcing these remaining visitors to be issued new cookies that overwrite their original values. This small percentage of visitors would also appear as New Visitors in the time period during which their cookie was replaced.
