Requirements for a successful installation of Webtrends Analytics 9

To guarantee a successful installation of Webtrends Analytics, the server, and the account under which services run, require assignment of needed roles, role services, and rights prior to attempting the installation. Before installing the product, ensure the Webtrends server is a member of the Windows domain and the Webtrends service account is a domain user with administrative rights on all machines with which it will interact and has all required local security policies applied.
Procedure
1. Install .NET 3.5 Service Pack 1, available from the following URL:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=AB99342F-5D1A-413D-8319-81DA479AB0D7

2. Install Windows installer 4.5, available from the following URL:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyId=5A58B56F-60B6-4412-95B9-54D056D6F9F4

3. Install Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.

4. Apply all operating system updates.

5. Assign local security policies for the Webtrends service account on all applicable machines. Refer to the following Knowledge Base article for details:

6. Disable Windows' User Account Control, otherwise security restrictions will interfere with the installation process. Refer to the following Knowledge Base article for details:

User Account Control must be disabled to install Webtrends on Windows Server 2008

7. Install the following Roles and Role Services, detailed in the following Knowledge Base articles:

8. When installing the application, right-click on the installer and select "Run as Administrator."

9. When prompted for the name of the user account under which Webtrends' services will run, do not select Local System; enter the account credentials for the domain user account referred to in this article's introductory paragraph, to which local security policies were applied in step 5. above.
