Cause
Certain statistics like “average visit duration” on the visitors summary report will not be consistent with the “average visit duration” on new versus returning visitors report . (VH based = need a session tracking other IP + agent)
Resolution
Different calculations are being used.
Visitors summary report includes any user no matter the session tracking mechanism.
The New vs Returning Visitors report is based on Visitor History, thus only applicable to authenticated users or users accepting cookies. Visit duration is not calculated based upon the same data set, so the values between these two will not align.
